Medisafe Discovers Mismanagement of Leading Asthma Medication

22 May 2023

Medisafe data shows that more than 25% of patients who take a leading asthma medication do so in the morning. Guidelines from the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) state that this medication should only be taken at night for maximum efficacy.

Medisafe analyzed real-time, de-identified and aggregate patient-reported data gathered from thousands of patients using Medisafe and taking this leading asthma medication. The analysis showed that non-compliant patients experience an average of three additional asthma events per month, a 13% increase, requiring the use of a rescue inhaler.

Medisafe conducted a Medsurvey through its platform and asked patients why they take this med at the wrong time and here’s how they responded:

  • 17% said morning is when they take other meds
  • 35% said morning is when they have time to take it
  • 35% said morning is when their doctor said to take it
