Thursday’s Motivation: Fiber, Fiber, Fiber!
The American Diabetes Association says that many Americans (diabetic and non diabetic) only get about half the amount of daily recommended fiber. Fiber is important for many reasons, but diabetically related, it helps you control your blood sugar. It takes the intestines a longer time to digest fiber-rich foods, and that slows the release of glucose into your bloodstream. In addition,When you eat whole grains rich in insoluble fiber, your body signals that it’s full because it moves faster through your intestines. It is suggested that “People with diabetes should consume at least the recommended amount of fiber for the general population: about 25 grams per day for women and 38 grams per day for men.”
